Haflingers
The breed:
The Haflinger finds its origin in Southern Tirol, now Italy, then Austrian territory. Mountain farmers improved their local horses using Arabian stallions.
The result of one of these combinations was the birth of Folie in 1874, son of a local mare and 'El Bedavie XXII', a half blood Arabian stallion. Folie was the first registered Haflinger breeding stallion.
After the second world war the breed is moderenized through an intensive breeding programm: from a robust mouintain trekking horse the breed evolved to a midsized horse, suitable for both leisure and equistrian sports.
Characterisitcs:
Chestnut with long thick snow white manes and tail;
Very friendly character;
height between 1.40 and 1.50 m; stallions often are higher.
